My art and interest in other cultures have stimulated me to travel internationally. I realized early in my career that clay, my material of choice, exists all over the world. Thus travel became my way of learning about my craft, the world and its inhabitants. My drive for creating and experiencing the art of other cultures brought me to West Africa at the age of twenty-two, when many of my artist friends were entering graduate school, I was entering into the lives of traditional cultures. This choice of using travel as a way to educate myself has made me a global citizen; it has made me. My work is the reinterpretation of personal narrative and historic events focusing on themes of gender, place and time. It is based upon historical narratives, woman’s studies, culture, current events, and my personal travel journals. My art speaks of the various experiences that I have had.
